What we do

Few of the following are done only by or initiated by LATIS—we work with friends.

If you don't see a service on the list, please ask us. We're always looking for ways to be more helpful to our community and its leaders.

Planning retreats and developing strategy

Preparing for strategic planning

We offer 1:1 consultations to help you get started and think through what you'd like to do. Together we can help you (and your team) come up with answers to your big questions—or at least some next steps towards finding them. This is a service for when you don't know where to start.

Tools and ideas for facilitating development of unit Three-Year Plans (3YP)

We can help unit leaders develop plans for developing their unit 3YP. We have resources, templates, and other ideas that might be helpful. We can schedule 1:1 meetings chairs and other leaders to help plan out their approach.

Facilitation

We have experience facilitating retreats and other events. We have borrowed ideas and formats from a wide range of resources and can help put together a plan that fits your team's needs.

Events we have facilitated:

  • CLA Dean's Group planning retreats
  • Department leadership team retreats
  • UMN Diversity Community of Practice Organizing Committee
  • CLA DEI Open Space
  • CLA Roadmap Goal-Shaping Committees
  • UMN IT Data Management (Scrum Coaching)

We recognize that finding a good fit between a unit and a facilitator is an important consideration. We know of some excellent consultants inside and outside of the University that we can connect you to.

Developing leaders

Administrative Leaders Program (ALP)

Leadership development is an essential element of strategic innovation and advancing the college mission. Deb Ludowese, LATIS Administrative Director, manages CLA's Administrative Leaders Program for the Dean's Office. She organizes new cohorts, coordinates with University partners (ie., OHR, ODEI, etc.), recruits presenters, and co-facilitates each cohort.

See Neighborhood page for details of this year's cohort.

Managing projects and college initiatives

CLA PEAK

We provide project management support for the CLA PEAK as hoc committee as well as process mapping facilitation.

See Neighborhood page for details.

Knowledge management

We have convened a series of conversations about how we communicate and manage information across a wide range of practices. We are probing the question of how separate activities (e.g., Neighborhood, CLA NOW, other newsletters, AIM meetings, etc) can better complement and support a more comprehensive approach.

Administrative Shared Work Processes

We are collaborating with the CLA Operational Leadership Team (OLT) on an initiative to improve college processes. You can find out more on the project Administrative Shared Work Analysis Initiative website

Data Science Initiative

We are helping CLA organize the launch of the new Data Science Initiative

Project management consulting and coaching

Many units are looking for more effective ways to manage their internal projects, and we can provide guidance about techniques, tools, and best practices that could fit the unit's needs.

Funding Technology

Infrastructure for Learning (IFL)

We oversee the CLA internal grant program that provides funding for instructional technology. See the IFL Neighborhood page for more details.

Computer Replacement Program (CRP)

We manage CLA funding for the purchasing and replacement of computers for faculty, staff, and grad students. We coordinate efforts with the University Bookstores and the Office of Information Technology. KatieRose Pasek is the CRP Program Manager and you can find more information on the Neighborhood.
